FAQ's -
For Charities
1
Our charity is not listed on www.charitychoice.co.uk
- can we register for the Online donation Service?
Yes!
Simply complete the secure online donation
registration form. Provided you are a
UK registered charity*, you can register for the service with us. Please note that any application received goes through eligibility checks with regards to your charitable status and information supplied.
* Please note that at this stage we do not accept Northern Ireland registrations
|
|
|
2
My charity already has its own online donation
service so why should I participate in this
one
 |
FREE
extra exposure for your charity- Charity
Choice has on average 142,000 visitors every
month. |
 |
NO
fees -we do not charge a registration fee, a monthly fee, nor do we charge a commission off any money donated! |
 |
No
credit card transaction fees for the
donor. We pay these! |
|
|
|
3
Do I have to set up a dedicated bank account?
No, all donations received via the Charity
Choice online donation service will be sent
securely to your existing bank account (provided your bank account accepts BACS payments). |
|
|
4
How much information on the donor will
be available?
Via our online administration facility
you will be able to access the full name and address of the donor unless, of course, the donor
has chosen to remain anonymous. You can also access their Gift Aid declaration. We do not store further details such as email addresses at this stage.
|
|
|
5
How does a potential donor use the service
to donate to a charity?
If a charity has registered for the FREE
online donation service a "Donate
Now!" button will appear next to
their charity name on the results list
(If the charity has an expanded details
page on the Charity Choice website they
will also have a ''Donate Now!" facility
on this page). The potential donor simply
clicks on the Donate Now button, selects an amount to donate, follows the prompts and clicks
submit.
|
|
|
6
Will I be able to monitor donations received
for our charity?
Yes! Once the Donate Now button becomes
active an email will be sent to the person
at the charity who registered for the
service. The email will contain a username
and password. These allow access to the
transaction monitoring system where the
records from any donations and donor details
such as name and address are kept. To
access the monitoring donation system
can then keep track of any donations and
access donors address details in order
to support your Gift Aid. You can also view
your account details. Please note if a
donor decides to be anonymous you
will only be able to view the amount donated.
|
|
|
|
7
How long will it take for my charity to
receive its donation?
The Co-operative Bank will begin processing
the donation as soon as it has been submitted. Please allow 3- 5 working days for your
transaction to be processed and deposited
into your account. The donation goes directly
into your bank account. The donation will appear on your bank statement as 'Charity Choice' or 'Co-Operative Bank Charity Commission'.
|
|
|
8
Does my charity have to claim Gift Aid?
Yes unfortunatly we do not claim Gift
Aid on your behalf. There
is an option for donors to choose GiftAid
when they donate online. If they have chosen
this option your charity will need to claim
back the GiftAid. If you are unsure how
to do this visit HM
Revenue and Customs for more information. |
|
|
9
Can I link to my charity's Donate Now page
to my own site?
Yes! Simply copy the web address of
your donation page on Charity Choice and
add it to your own website. To find out
more information
on adding you own DONATE NOW button, click
here. |
|
|
10
How can I add additional information to
our charity's Donate Now page?
We understand the importance of encouraging
potential donors to give. By providing extra
information about your charity it gives
the donor more reasons to give to your charity.
We can offer your charity the option of
adding text (with your logo at an extra charge) to your existing free donation
page at a small fee or we can provide you
with a bespoke donation page, this can be
designed to integrate seamlessly into your
own website. We offer a special 10% introductory discount to all new registrants.
If you have booked an intermediate donation
page and need to send us text for your page
please submit text using this link. |
|
|
11
My charity is considering building its own
online donations service so why should I
participate in this one?
 |
It's
FREE! |
 |
A
cheaper and more robust alternative
to any service you could commission
yourself |
 |
An
immediate source of donations |
 |
No
transaction costs* |
 |
No
commision charges |
* Please note that from January 2008 the service and associated costs will go under review. Please be assured though that if there were to be any changes or charges, all of our charities woul dbe given ample notice.
Good
quality, secure online donations systems
are expensive to set up and administer.
Apart from the initial build costs which
could run into tens of thousands of pounds,
you will also need to pay ongoing hosting
and administration fees, as well as transaction
fees to the card issuers.
There are no
hidden fees. All you have to do is supply
us with the details of the bank account
into which you would like transactions
to be processed, together with relevant
information and images to make up your
donation page.
Before
committing to the expense of building
and maintaining your own donations service
why not consider the benefits of allowing
Charity Choice to set this up for you.
You will then be able to control your
costs without losing the obvious benefit
of being able to receive donations online
and monitor who they are coming from.
|
|
|
12
My charity is already registered with or
considering using another online donation
service so why should I swap to or choose
this one
 |
FREE
exposure for your charity- Charity
Choice has on average over 140,000 visitors per
month. |
 |
NO
administration or hosting fees - If
your charity has already invested
in this type of service then you are
probably paying ongoing hosting and
administration fees as well as transaction
fees to the card issuers. |
 |
No credit card transaction fees nor commission charges-
you get the full donation! |
 |
Be
part of a large network of charities
offering online donations - We, along
with Co-operative Bank will be marketing
the website to ensure your charity
is seen by as many potential donors
as possible. |
Charity
Choice is already well established
as the leading online reference source
for both the general public and professional
legacies advisors and currently receives
over 140,000 visitors each month. Charity
Choice is also known as the "The
Encyclopaedia of Charities" and contains
over 10,000 entries for charities throughout
the UK presented in an easily searchable
and user friendly format.
Charity
Choice is listed as a useful resource
within The Rough Guide to a Better World,
published by Rough Guides in association
with The Department for International
Development. 2 million copies of this
publication have so far been distributed
free of charge via post offices throughout
the UK and a reprint is currently in production.
Other
online donations services charge transaction
and administration fees for processing
online donations, commonly anything upwards
of 5%. Charity Choice and The Co-operative
Bank are committed to charging NO ADDITIONAL
TRANSACTION OR ADMINISTRATION FEES.
|
|
|
13
Why should I pay for an enhanced donation
page when I have text about donating on
my current Charity Choice entry?
By clicking on the 'Donate Now' button donors
may bypass the main charity contact details
page in order to fast track their way through
straight to the donation page. Search results
can also be ordered by those with an online
donation facility and these are ordered
by the type of donation page that has been
booked. It is important for donors to view
as much information as possible about your
charity so that they can be fully aware
of the impact their donation will have.
|
|
|
14
Is the Charity Registration page secure?
Definitely. Sending your bank details to
us is secure and this is shown by the URL
"https:" Please note however
that this page does contain both secure
and non secure items. When you go to
the Online Donation registration
page the page asks whether you want to display
non secure items, if you click 'Yes' then
the padlock disappears and non secure items,
top part of the page,(such as images for
linking to other pages) will be displayed
as well as secured items. If you click 'No'
then a padlock will be displayed
but not non secure items. |

9 What
is Gift Aid?
Charities can now claim back the tax paid on donations from the HMRC. The money that you donate to the charity is money that you have already paid tax on, so by Gift- Aiding it, your charity can reclaim that tax. Gift Aid is calculated at the basic- rate taxpayer’s pay, which is currently 20%.
Using Gift Aid means that for every £1 you give, the charity can claim an extra 25p. So, for every £100 you give to your charity they will be able to reclaim a further £25 from HMRC. |
|
|
10
Can I make an anonymous donation?
Yes! You may choose not to disclose your
details and still give to the charity of
your choice. We are committed to protecting
your privacy. This means that the charity
knows the amount donated but does not receive
any other contact information about you.
Please be aware though that if you choose
to remain anonymous the charity will be
unable to reclaim Gift Aid from Her Majesty's
Revenue and Customs. See What
is GiftAid? for more information. |
|
|
11
Will you protect my privacy?
Yes. No information is passed on. Please see our Privacy
and Security Statement within our terms
and conditions for more information. |
